Qedani Dorothy Mahlangu

Qedani Dorothy Mahlangu is a qualified teacher and has an advanced diploma in Economics from the University of the Western Cape.

She currently serves as the Gauteng MEC for Health and Social Development and has previously served as MEC for Local Government in the same province.

She was active in the anti-apartheid South African Youth Congress (Sayco) and later in the ANC Youth League. From 1997 to 1998 she served as a member of the Gauteng Legislature whip in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

From 1999 to 2004 she served as Chairperson of the Select Committee on Finance in the NCOP. She was a member of the Audit Commission and was instrumental in establishing the Joint Budget Committee, in which she served.

She has served in ANC structures in various capacities, including as currently serving member of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee in Gauteng.
